The technician was present the very moment when the Los Angeles Centipede lab exploded in 2013. He died at this moment.
Biography
In 2013, when a man who has experimented a special serum for the Centipede project got mad and angry, the technician tried to calm down the man without result. The lab exploded soon after, killing him in the process (AOS: "Pilot").
Character's evolution
S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Melinda May, Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz make an investigation inside the Los Angeles Centipede lab. They find a carbonized body, which is the technician's.
Later, when they use the video and audio footage recorded at the moment of the explosion, Coulson's team see the technician trying to calm down an angry man who has a glowing device on his arm.
